A Letter From a Reader Adalyn S
The cardigan I now reach for without thinking.
On the Adalyn — the embroidered button-front that slips on in seconds, falls straight to the hip, covers the arms in a soft knit, and has people asking where you found it.
I am 63 years old, and getting dressed had quietly become a guessing game. I would stand at the closet, pull something out, decide it was too plain, put it back — and end up in the same safe, forgettable combination I had worn a dozen times that week already.
It wore on me more than I let on. I had started to feel a little invisible in my own clothes.
Then a woman in my church group here in Mount Pleasant kept turning up looking comfortable and quietly put-together at the same time. I finally asked her. She laughed and told me to read the Clarke family's letter first, so I am going to let their words carry it, because they say it better than I could.
1Off in five seconds, without leaving the room.

We built the Adalyn with a clean button-front for exactly this reason. The room warms up, the conversation is still going — she simply slips it off her shoulders, folds it over the back of the chair, and carries on. No tugging, no leaving the table, no one noticing. It goes back on just as fast when the draft comes in.
2Two straight lines from shoulder to hem.
We cut the Adalyn so the front panels hang straight down from the shoulder — not flaring open, not pulling across the chest. There is enough ease through the body that the edge never curls away from you, and nothing about the line draws the eye to the middle. It skims cleanly and keeps its shape through a full day of wearing.
3Embroidery that stops people mid-sentence.

We hand-applied each of those blooms — large, raised white flowers worked in looped yarn with a dark center, scattered across the front and sleeves of a soft aqua knit. They are cheerful without being loud, and they photograph beautifully. Two different women have stopped her in the parking lot to ask where it came from. That does not happen with a plain cardigan.
4Sleeves that cover the arms — and breathe.

We made the Adalyn with a full-length sleeve and a neat ribbed cuff that sits right at the wrist — covering exactly the part of the arm most of us would rather keep to ourselves — in a soft knit that still lets enough air through to stay comfortable indoors. She does not need to reach for a separate layer. This one handles it.
5Nothing about it says cardigan in the old sense.

We chose the aqua teal color deliberately — a warm, cheerful tone that lifts the face and the whole room, and has nothing in common with the shapeless, muted cardigans of the old-fashioned sort. The raised embroidery and the clean V-neck give it a finished, considered look. Put it on and you look like you made a choice — because you did.
6The front hangs the same in March as in October.
We reinforced the button placket with a stabilized band that holds its line even after months of wear. An open front is always pulling itself down — the weight of the fabric, the pulling on and off — and most cardigans sag within a season. The Adalyn's front edge springs back the same way it did the first morning.
The Adalyn, against the cardigans you've been buying.

Why they're clearing it now
They priced the Adalyn at $113.00 when it launched, and it sold at that price all season. But for America's 250th, the Clarke family wanted to give something back — so every cardigan is going out at well below half of what it was.
I ordered mine that evening. It arrived a few days later in a kraft-paper parcel, folded neatly in tissue paper, with a short card from the family tucked on top. I have reached for it more mornings than I can count since.

I do not usually write things like this. But I spent too many mornings pulling on the same dull combination and feeling like I had disappeared into it — and this one cardigan quietly changed that. I put it on and I look like I made a choice. If that sounds familiar, I hope you find your size before it clears.
