I am 63 years old, and I had stopped expecting a dress to make me feel a little bit wonderful. The comfortable ones had gone plain and shapeless; the striking ones were stiff, hot synthetic with no pockets to speak of. So I dressed to disappear and told myself that was simply the deal at my age.
