A Letter From a Reader Denim Women
The denim dresses I reach for every single morning.
On the Clarke Denim Women collection — full-length button-down dresses cut to cover the arms, keep their buttons closed, and go straight back in the washing machine. Three designs, all cut identically, so once you find your size you simply choose the color.
I am 63 years old, and getting dressed had quietly become the part of my morning I dreaded most. Everything comfortable made me look like I had given up, and everything with a bit of shape either pulled across the middle or needed ironing I had no patience for. Most days I put on the same slacks and called it done.
It wore on me more than I let on. I had started to feel a little invisible in my own clothes.
Then a woman in my church group here in Mount Pleasant kept turning up looking put-together and entirely at ease at the same time. I finally asked her. She laughed and told me to read the Clarke family's letter first, so I am going to let their words carry it, because they say it better than I could.
1Covered from shoulder to wrist — and it still breathes.

Every dress in the Denim Women collection is cut with a long sleeve that falls past the wristbone — roomy enough that it does not strain when you reach, with a roll-tab cuff so you can push it back on a warm afternoon without it slipping down. The upper arm is covered entirely across every design in the range, without anyone having to think about it. There is no cardigan to hunt for, nothing to fuss with. You are simply dressed.
2No gaping buttons. Nothing shows.
The button placket on every dress in this collection runs all the way from the collar to the floor — and we spaced those buttons so the front sits flat whether you are standing, seated, or reaching across a table. The collar opens at the throat for air without dipping further than it should. No safety pins, no layering something underneath, no tape. You put it on, button it, and it stays exactly as you left it — whichever color you choose.
3Deep pockets — phone, glasses, and your keys.

We put two deep hip pockets on every dress in the range — hidden inside the side seams so the line of the dress stays clean — plus two chest pockets for smaller things. The hip pockets are generous: your phone goes in without straining the fabric, and your reading glasses fit alongside it. The dress does not change shape. You leave the handbag at home if you want to, and nothing in the silhouette gives the game away.
4A collar that opens the face, not the chest.

The shirt collar on every dress in this collection lies flat and open at the throat — there is room for a necklace, no fabric pressing against the neck, and the V it forms draws the eye upward toward the face instead of downward. It is exactly the neckline that lifts a woman's whole appearance without showing more than she wants to show. No turtleneck pulling, no plunge that needs managing. A clean, open line that looks the same in light wash as it does in dark.
5Three designs, all cut the same — choose on the color alone.

The Denim Women collection presents three colorways — a soft light wash, a classic mid-wash blue, and a deep dark wash that reads almost as a navy in evening light. Every one of them is cut exactly the same: the same roominess in the shoulder, the same sleeve length, the same pocket placement, the same hem. Once you know your size in one of these dresses, you know it across all three. You choose purely on the color, and you order with confidence. Quite a few women we hear from have all three.
6Out of the wash and straight back on.
Every dress in the Denim Women collection is machine washable — cold water, gentle cycle, and hang to dry. The denim does not stiffen, does not lose its color, and does not need ironing before you wear it again. No dry cleaner, no careful hand-washing, no waiting. These are dresses you wear often precisely because putting them away and getting them back is so little trouble.

Why they're clearing them now
They priced the Denim Women dresses at $135.00 when they launched, and they sold at that price all season. But for America's 250th, the Clarke family wanted to give something back — so every dress in the collection is going out at less than half of that.
Each dress arrives in a kraft mailer box — folded in cream tissue, with the Clarke family's printed card on top. It is the kind of unboxing that feels like a gift to yourself, even when you ordered it yourself.

I do not usually write things like this. But I spent too many mornings standing in front of my closet feeling like nothing there was really for me anymore — and then these dresses arrived and I have reached for them more times than I can count. If you have been putting up with sleeves that end at exactly the wrong place, buttons that shift by lunchtime, and dresses that need a whole case of supporting garments underneath them, go and look at the designs before the sizes go. You might find yourself wearing one three days running, as I did — and then ordering the next color.
