Warm, soft, and — finally — not tight anywhere

I am 63, and my fall clothes had turned into a set of compromises. The warm things were tight in the middle. The loose things were thin. And every one of them was some shade of brown I had chosen because it was sensible, not because I liked it. I got dressed each morning by picking whichever thing bothered me least.
