A Letter From a Reader Meyla s
The sweater that makes people stop and ask.
On the Meyla — a soft, fine-knit sweater with a painterly floral print that covers the arms, skims the hip, and somehow looks like you made an effort without trying at all.
I am 63 years old, and getting dressed had turned into something I dreaded a little. Every sweater I tried either felt scratchy at the neck by mid-morning, or looked so plain it might as well have been a uniform. So I kept reaching for the same safe, dull things and telling myself it was fine.
It wore on me more than I let on. I had started to feel a little invisible in my own clothes.
Then a woman in my church group here in Mount Pleasant kept turning up looking comfortable and quietly put-together at the same time. I finally asked her. She laughed and told me to read the Clarke family's letter first, so I am going to let their words carry it, because they say it better than I could.
1Soft against the skin — you forget you have it on.

We knit the Meyla from long, fine fibers chosen because they stay smooth against the skin — the neck, the inner upper arm, the cuffs. No scratching, no prickling by midday. We have heard it described as wearing a cloud, and we take that as high praise. It is the thing you reach for first on a cool morning and forget is there by noon.
2A color that lifts the face.
The blush-pink sits right at the neckline — closer to your face than almost anything else you wear. We chose this shade deliberately. It is warm without being loud, and it adds light near the face in a way that a gray or a beige simply cannot. Women have told us they look rested in it. A few have told us their husbands noticed. We believe them.
3A print that gets you noticed — for the right reasons.

The two white floral sprays are painted in a fine, artistic hand — blue-tipped petals, soft gold accents, trailing stems that curve across the front like something from a botanical print. Nothing loud, nothing cheap. The kind of detail that has women stopping you in the grocery store to ask where you got it. On a plain blush-pink ground, it gives the whole sweater the feeling of something considered and chosen.
4Ribbed cuffs and hem that spring back — no sagging.

We finish the Meyla with firm ribbing at the cuffs and the hem — the two places a sweater tends to lose its shape first. They snap back after every wash. The cuffs sit neat at the wrist all day; the hem keeps its line at the hip. After a full season, it looks the same as it did the first morning you wore it.
5Long sleeves that cover the arms — all the way to the wrist.

The sleeves are cut long and roomy enough to fall cleanly to the wrist without straining — covering the upper arm, the elbow, the forearm. We cut the armhole generously too, so it slips over the head without a wrestle and sits without pinching under the arm. Covered from shoulder to wrist, and still comfortable all day.
6Hip length — falls where it should.
The Meyla is cut to fall at the hip — long enough to wear over pants or a skirt without a second thought, with a small slit at each side so it moves easily. We make it from size S to 5XL and cut it relaxed on purpose. It is meant to fit the woman, not the other way around.

Why they're clearing it now
They priced the Meyla at $135.00 when it launched, and it sold at that price all season. But for America's 250th, the Clarke family wanted to give something back — so every sweater is going out at well below half of what it was.
I ordered mine that same evening after church. It arrived a few days later in a neat kraft-paper parcel with a short note from the family tucked inside. I have put it on more times than I can count since then — it has become the thing I reach for without thinking.

I do not usually write things like this. But I spent too many mornings pulling on something plain and invisible, and this one sweater quietly changed that — a soft, pretty thing with a little art on it that makes me feel like myself again. If any of that sounds familiar, I hope you find your size before it clears.
